Cutting It Right Down the Middle ~ 30 Days of Godly Wisdom

So, God is giving me a nudge….He has His reasons. He will reveal them to me. His timing is always perfect. He’s knocking. He’s telling me to take a break – from a lot of things. He’s telling me to step away with Him for a while….to a different place. Oh, how hard it is to let go.

Wisdom given ~ revelations and guidance to be received.

Healing.

Focus.

Basics.

Milk. Survival.

Listening.

Input from HIM.

Yes, I will cut the 30 Days of Godly Widsom blog series short…it will be finished, but not until I get God’s green light.

This is a new thing for me ` To stop something in the middle. Oh, the disorganization of it all!

To leave something unfinished? To stop short?

Yes…oh yes, friends. I gotta take a break right in the middle of it all.

Because His timing is perfect.

He tells me to wait. To listen. To pray in a more focused way.

Eleven left. Eleven left to complete the 30 days series.

It’s not even an even number, Lord!

What will He reveal during this gap? What will He fill the space I make here with? Something of Himself and His wisdom, I am sure. Something of His glory.

What shall He reveal to me during this time of healing and listening?

I will be praying for you, dear friends. I will be reading what you share as you write and I break for a while.

Know that I am praying and this is part of HIS timing.

I can’t wait to find out what’s in store.

Cynical Much? 30 Days of Godly Widsom

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”  Proverbs 9:10-12

Opening Oswald ~ 30 Days of Godly Widsom

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?  Romans 2:1-3

When to Do Good ~ 30 Days of Godly Wisdom

heart-368485_640

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Romans 12:9-13

Love is Hard

file000999308823[1]

As life moves onward, we tend to see that love is not all it’s cracked up to be. That is…we see it if we are really looking at it from God’s perspective instead of this world’s distorted version of it.

The world tells us that love is about feelings, affection, tenderness, and warmth. They tell us it’s about support, camaraderie, and getting along.

But I find that quite the opposite holds true in most cases. I don’t really call that stuff love.

Most of the times I have felt God really teaching me about what His kind of love is, it involves feelings and emotions, but isn’t really about the feelings at all. It’s about what is done or not done with such feelings.

Love is about action. Love is about decision. And that love action and decision we make to love can be expressed many different ways.

Sometimes I have found that the best way to express Godly love is to do something intentionally, that seems like you aren’t really doing much of anything at all. That something often entails backlash, by the way. Just look at Jesus on the cross, friends.

Think about it for a moment…

Patience.

Gentleness.

Self Control.

Not self seeking.

Not rude (especially when you want to be).

There are so many others – things that God says make up real love – but things we cannot see with our own eyes. These are the indicators of Big love. God’s kind of love.

When it gets really complicated, is when the action of love entails allowing there to be tough and rough and ugly feelings flying all around. A lot of times, love – God’s kind of love – is not feel-good stuff. That’s hard for this girl right here, yo. I absorb everyone’s emotions to a level where I get almost physically ill from it. Big, BIG thing I am working on with God right now. Letting other people own their own emotions and feelings.

In fact, I have been told by several of my health care folks that is a big player in this fibromyalgia thingie. Oh well. Surrender continues to be a theme for many of us, doesn’t it?

Sometimes we even have to allow others to feel unloved if what they are wanting or expecting from us isn’t what God is asking us to do for them. Do you think Jesus ever felt this way? I am sure it must have been beyond difficult for Him to turn all of that over to the Father. Sometimes, He had to just walk away. Sometimes that was the most loving thing He could do.

Jesus showed us the greatest of love by laying down his life for his friends. These “friends” were slapping him in the face, spitting on him, mocking him, beating him, turning their backs on him, telling him he was a blasphemer, and then put him to what they thought would be “death.”

He did not back down.

He prayed for them, but refused to pacify them.

He could have been all about puppy dogs and roses. He could have come to the world to become the most popular fellow around – known for how “loving” and cheerful he always was…known for how he made everyone feel good all the time. Not known for healing people who didn’t deserve it, or showing compassion without compromising truth, or standing up and turning over tables amongst the hypocrites.

Jesus didn’t sacrifice truth for love. And he didn’t use truth to bypass love either.

When asked over and over again by many who had the “power” to prevent the death on the cross to defend himself, for the most part, Jesus remained silent.

We express love in many ways, friends. But sometimes love is expressed silently. Sometimes, it is God’s action through that silence on our own part that does the loving.

And that is often hard to do.

We want to take credit for loving, don’t we? We like to profess what love is so we can have some form of control over its very definition. We want to make it and mold it to our liking, our standards, and our expectations. Often that is rooted, whether we realize it or not, in something not quite all the way pure.

If you are trying to love in some way in your life right now that not only doesn’t pay off with feel-good results, but even seems to be causing you to feel badly, know that you are not alone.

Jesus knows this kind of love. It is intermingled with suffering. It is laced with pain. It is loving sacrifice. He is love. He is truth. And He does all the real loving in and through us anyway.

So who cares about the world’s definition of it!

Guess what else? Loving – the God kind of loving – it often happens best when liking doesn’t even go along with it at all.

It looks a little like this….

Father-Forgive-Them

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?  Matthew 5:46

30 Days of Godly Wisdom ~ Keeping Home in Mind

For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come.heaven

For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come. Hebrews 13:14

I’m Counting on It!

Not feeling undertstood much?

How about truly cared for, loved, or comforted?

Like that way, you know?

The kind of way most of us only felt when we were small – babies in our mama’s arms.

Being bathed, cared for, comforted while sick.

Taken care of.

Busy seeking to understand and love upon others much?

Not sure if it’s helping them at all?

Remember your job ~ to be light and love and let Jesus do the rest.

The rest of it includes remembering something really important; something very awesome, and something that offers more hope than anything else you can imagine all put together and multiplied by infinity: That is where our real home is, friends.

If you look forward to Jesus coming again ~ if you can’t wait for the day we get to go home (where we really ultimately belong) to be with Him, you are in good company.

In the meantime, we are here. We are here for the sake of the gospel and to glorify the Lord. In our sickness, and in our health. In our good times and our trial-filled ones. We are here.

But I feel peace when I read sections of the Word – God’s love letter to us – which emphasize not to live for this world. He emphasizes to be light amongst others while here, and trust in Him. But never once do I see the Lord say we shouldn’t be crazy excited about the prospect of eventually getting to go home.

We are His children. He wants us home too. He’s just being patient in case any of the other kids who ran away want to come too.

That’s the kind of love I want to have for others. I haven’t figured that out yet.

For now, I will stick with asking for God to give me what I need to love the way that he wants me to love. To enjoy this life without living for it. To help bring as many people to live out eternity with him as possible.

It’s gonna be awesome, friends. Soooo awesome. Don’t let anyone try to take it from you. If you look forward to Jesus’ coming for us or taking us there to be with him ~ count on it. Praise Him for giving you that eagerness. And know it makes His heart glad.

If Jesus had a Facebook…..(Revised)

bible3

Hubby and I were discussing the other day how much petty and superficial “stuff” there is out there on facebook, and also how very sad, angry, or lost some people out there in our world really seem to feel. People are tired, they are weary, and they just want to lose themselves in something “easy” for a while. I totally get that. But what I find as I scan the newsfeed so often is that the things that don’t really matter are gobbled up by the tons, and that which is edifying, or a reflection of truth is often just tossed by the wayside.

We humans are somewhat lazy at times. It takes work and desire to not bypass the truth for all of the shiny glittery things of the world that we can gaze upon and enjoy without all the work that can be involved. I know I am guilty of it. So connecting through facebook is mighty alluring for most. I get that too.

All the more reason that instead of complaining, I decided that I should rejoice! For our God can use any and everything as an avenue to reach others; to reveal Himself; and to bring those who are lost or in need of comfort into His loving arms. With facebook as a tool, the ability to share some of His message and love is just a click away! I think that is pretty cool.

For those of us who are Christians, we have been asked to spread the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ to others. We have also been asked to display love and grace to them. This means that we must go where the people are. Facebook is definitely one of those places.

And I really got to thinking -what might Jesus share with us on facebook if He had a profile and account and “friended” us? I tend to think He might say what He has already – the truths that can be found in His original book to us, the Bible.

God’s word is infallible. It never changes, and it shall never pass away. It will not return void, and it speaks to us all, and it reveals to us the way He would have us live. It tells us of the wonders and majesty of all that He is and all that we can be in Him. We can stand upon it, it holds great power, as it is God-breathed through and through. It connects us to the friend that will never hide from us, delete us, fail us, or write something untrue on our wall for the world to see. God has a face too glorious and holy for us to look upon with our mere human eyes, but one we can behold in His word. He is our light in a world of darkness. And, most of all, He is love.

So I wonder today – how might the Lord share out of His book with us on facebook? What might it say about who He is and all that He wants for us in our lives? And could our own responses to what people post reflect the face of the Lord and His love for them? Could they provide a momentary glimpse of that wonderful face that just might bring about an eventual decision to accept the gift of salvation that He offers?

And if we ever feel down in the dumps our caught up in tough stuff ourselves – if OUR facebook status reflects a sad or broken spirit;  could we consider for a moment what nuggets of truth God offers to us in His holy word that might turn things around and change our own “status”?

In the face of all that is fleeting – the fickle face of our current status or our present situations or circumstances, where is the face that never changes to be found? Whose face can we seek for something that offers TRUE connectivity, everlasting hope, and eternal life? And what might HE feed us in reply to our newsfeed?

This is how I, personally would envision it……
